Luke Dicken is an artificial intelligence researcher based in Helensburgh, UK currently working at the University of Strathclyde. His past work has included designing and building robotic systems, and developing AI techniques that can play video games in the same way humans might. His current research project centres around incorporating objective-oriented reasoning and real-time environmental data to allow AI agents to execute tasks much more efficiently. Luke is also involved in teaching at the university and has acted as demonstrator or teaching assistant for the following classes: Client Side Programming, Distributed Programming, Low Level Programming, VLSI, Foundations of Artificial Intelligence and Web Applications Engineering. Luke gained his first two degrees (BSc(Hons) and MSc) at the University of Edinburgh, specialising in AI and BioInformatics respectively, subsequently he has attained a Master of Research degree from the University of Strathclyde in “Automated Planning for Autonomous Systems”, graduating with distinction.

Outside of Academia, Luke was founder of Cerebrus-Net, a UK based IT Consultancy firm with clients nation-wide, and led teams working on a diverse range of projects from development of bespoke distributed database systems, to site-wide security audits. He has been invited to join the board of several start-ups due to his knowledge and experience of technology and “New Media”. Luke is also a Staff Writer for the popular website AIGameDev.com .

When not behind a computer screen or in front of a whiteboard, Luke enjoys yacht racing, playing guitar and photography, and has recently retired from the online game “Eve” where he ran an international organisation of around 200 players.
